Calvin, Wittenberg to Meet in MCVL Tournament Final

Springfield, Ohio – The final of the 2026 Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League tournament is set. Calvin, the number-three seed in just its third year of existence, will meet Wittenberg. Calvin defeated the two-seed, Trine, 3-0 in the first semifinal here. Wittenberg, the top seed and league co-champion, then took a 3-0 win against Baldwin Wallace. Tomorrow's championship match between Wittenberg and Calvin begins at 3:00p in Pam Evans Smith Arena.

Calvin head coach Aaron Sagraves added to his impressive rookie season. He was voted the league's Coach of the Year by his peers. This is also a rookie year of sorts for Wittenberg head coach Jamie Peterson. She is in her first full year as head coach of the Tigers after taking over mid-season in 2025. Calvin beat Wittenberg in the regular-season game back on February 21. The Knights enter the championship match with a record of 21-4, while Wittenberg is 20-5.

Calvin 3, Trine 0

Daniel Rua and Nick Bultje combined for 16 kills and a sizzling .469 hitting percentage (15-for-32) as Calvin won, 25-22, 25-17 and 25-23. The win avenged a 3-1 loss at Trine back on April 1. Setter Ezekiel Jalan dished out the butter for the Knights, totaling 15 assists on just one error. Owen Wise had 14 assists without an error. Trine was led by Johnson-Kuhao Ho'okano-Pelekai with 10 kills and a .250 hitting percentage. Xander Ikusz did well as the team's setter, totaling 24 with just one error. Trine finished the season with a record of 17-9.

Wittenberg 3, Baldwin Wallace 0

Reese Monnin and Patterson Reed led the Tigers offensively with hitting percetages of .625 (six kills) and .714 (six kills). Reed also was a stout defender with a team-high five blocks. Setter Gavin Hagerty set the table with 17 assists. Tyler Schunk from Baldwin Wallace had match-high 12 kills and a .207 hitting percentage. The Yellow Jackets ended the year with an 18-11 overall record.
