MCVL, U.S.A. -- For the second time in the last four years, there are multiple teams that call themselves Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) regular-season champions. Trine and Wittenberg both went through the league schedule with only one loss (8-1 records) and will add hardware to the trophy cases.
Wittenberg won the regular-season match against Trine, 3-2, and earned the right to host the league tournament this Friday and Saturday in Springfield, Ohio. A newcomer and a familiar face will make the trip to Wittenberg this weekend. Calvin, in just its third year of the program's existence, went 7-2 in league play to finish third. Baldwin Wallace, which now has qualified for four-straight MCVL tourneys, had to win twice on the final weekend to pick up the number-four seed.
Wittenberg's regular-season title was the second in program history (won outright in 2024). The Tigers will be playing in their fourth-straight MCVL tournament, an event they have never won. Trine had never won the regular-season championship, but it did capture the tournament title in 2024. Calvin turned around a 1-7 MCVL season from a year ago. Baldwin Wallace is the only team in this weekend's field that has won both the regular-season (three-way tie) and league-tournament titles, accomplishing both in 2023.
The winner of the MCVL tournament earns the league's automatic berth to the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship.
