MCVL Awards Trine’s Both, Calvin’s Bultje with Week Five Honors

MCVL, U.S.A. — The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) announced its weekly award winners for Week Five on Tuesday, recognizing Trine's Karl Both and Calvin's Nick Bultje.

Both was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week while Bultje picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors.

A junior middle blocker, Both was outstanding on the offensive end in a 2-1 weekend for the Thunder at Nazareth's tournament in Rochester, N.Y. He combined for 34 kills and hit at a blistering .448 clip, adding seven service aces. Both was particularly instrumental in Trine's 3-0 sweep of 17th-ranked Thiel, racking up eight kills and five aces in a ranked-victory for Trine.

Bultje aided the Knights to a 4-0 week as Calvin swept all four of its opponents. The Byron Center, Mich. native collected 17 combined blocks in four matches, averaging 1.42 blocks per set. Bultje's net presence helped the Knights to their first-ever home invite crown and a 2-0 start to its MCVL campaign.

This is Both's second time this season earning this distinction, following him being named Offensive Player of the Week following the first week of competition. For Bultje, this is his first Defensive Player of the Year honor in his career. Additionally, this is the first-ever Player of the Week award for Calvin Men's Volleyball, who is in its second season in the MCVL.
