MCVL, U.S.A. — The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) announced its first 2026 edition of the Player of the Week awards on Tuesday, honoring Trine's Karl Both and Mount Union's Peyton Koszelak.
Both, a junior middle blocker, earned Offensive Player of the Week while Koszelak, a junior libero, was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Trine's Both racked up 41 kills, attacking at a blistering .437 clip, in the Thunder's first five matches of the season. The 6-7 junior's biggest outing came against Mount St. Joseph, where he racked up nine kills on 11 attempts, hitting .818. Both had three matches with nine kills or more and hit over .500 in all three matches. The Glenbard East prep has helped Trine to a 3-2 record so far, boasting wins over Lakeland, Mount St. Joseph and St. Vincent. This is the first-ever OPOW honor for Both.
Koszelak, the 2025 MCVL Defensive Player of the Year, started off his 2026 campaign with 26 combined digs, an average of 3.71 digs per set, in matchups against Geneva and MSOE. The Eden, N.Y.-native had 13 digs in each match, helping propel the Purple Raiders to a four-set victory over Geneva in their season opener. Koszelak was named Defensive Player of the Week three times last season, making this his fourth career DPOW honor.
