SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – After leading Wittenberg Men's Volleyball to a 6-3 record after taking over midseason as the program's interim head coach, Jamie Peterson has accepted the opportunity to continue in the position full time moving forward, Vice President and Director of Athletics and Recreation Brian Agler announced.
"Jamie did an exceptional job for our men's volleyball program when stepped in to position midway through the 2025 season," Agler said. "Our team played a demanding schedule and competed to the end for a conference championship. We are excited about for the program's future with Jamie leading the way.
"The student-athletes have great confidence in Jamie, and I am confident we will keep improving to become one of the top teams in the country."
Agler named Peterson to the interim position after Nathan Matthews '19, who had served as the program's head coach since 2021, resigned to take an assistant position with the University of Alabama's women's volleyball program. Peterson returned to Wittenberg after spending the 2022 and 2023 seasons on the sidelines at Pam Evans Smith Arena as an assistant coach with the Tigers' women's volleyball program.
In her first match after the unusual midseason coaching transition, Peterson led the Tigers to an upset victory of nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace on March 14. She guided the Tigers to a second-place finish in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) regular season standings and a berth in the league tournament, where Wittenberg fell in the semifinals to Baldwin Wallace.
Peterson is the first female head coach in the 10-year history of Wittenberg Men's Volleyball, and she has taken her place among a select few women in collegiate men's volleyball head coaching positions nationally. A native of West Liberty, Ohio, Peterson has embraced the challenge of taking program to new heights after three straight outstanding seasons competing for the top spots in the league standings.
"I am extremely grateful for the confidence from my team and Brian alike," Peterson said. "I can't wait to see where this program can go. We have a hungry group that is ready to put in the work to become great. All credit to the team for rolling with the punches and continuing to work through adversity. I'm excited for what is to come."
As a collegiate student-athlete, Peterson was a three-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, Midwest Region Player of the Year, and NCAA Division 1 All-American at the University of Dayton from 2016-21. She went on to play professional women's volleyball for Athletes Unlimited in 2022 and 2023 while also helping Wittenberg Women's Volleyball to back-to-back North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament titles.
Peterson, who earned bachelor's degrees in sport management and business administration from the University of Dayton, resides in Springfield with her husband, Zach Sprinkle, a firefighter and emergency medical technician for the City of Springfield, and their six-year-old son.
