INDIANAPOLIS (MCVL.org) - Less than 48 hours after claiming the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League's first-ever automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, Dominican learned on Monday morning of its first round bye via the selection show. The Stars will face the winner of Endicott and Stevens on April 28 in Springfield, Mass.
The Stars enter the NCAA Tournament with a 26-2 overall record, having defeated No. 14 MSOE and No. 15 Mount St. Joseph in the conference tournament to earn the automatic bid. Dominican's resume includes five wins over AVCA ranked opponents, including a three-set sweep over third-ranked Stevens on March 26. In the last 10 days alone, the Stars have four wins over top-15 teams.
Four years ago, Dan Ames took the reigns and started the men's volleyball program at Dominican and this season have earned the team's first regular season championship and tournament championship. Ames will look to Luke Spicer to lead the attack in the NCAA Tournament, after earning MCVL Tournament MVP honors this last weekend. Spicer is one of many multiple threats that Dominican possesses.
First round action of the NCAA Tournament begins on April 22 at four campus sites before an eight-team final site begins play on April 28 in Springfield, Mass.
